TechTonic Conversations — Issue #1
We're back — and we've got a bigger mission
Warm Greetings,
You’re receiving this email because at some point you subscribed to TechTonic Conversations — a YouTube channel dedicated to making sense of the seismic shifts happening at the intersection of technology, leadership, and the future of work.
Thank you for being part of this community. We’ve been quiet for a while. That changes today.
TechTonic Conversations is moving to Substack and evolving into something more focused, more practical, and more relevant than ever. If you’d prefer not to come along for the ride, simply click Unsubscribe at the bottom of this email — no hard feelings, and no complicated process. We’d rather have a small, engaged audience than a large, passive one.
If you’re staying — welcome to the next chapter. Let’s get into it.
Why Now? Why This?
Over the past two years, something has become undeniably clear to those of us working inside real organizations — not in Silicon Valley, not in research labs, but in boardrooms, budget meetings, and city halls:
The AI revolution is no longer coming. It’s here. And most organizations are not ready.
Not because they lack access to the technology. Not because they lack intelligent people. But because the mindset has not caught up with reality. To compound the issue, there is also a chronic lack of effective AI & Automation strategy, leadership & activation frameworks, individual and Team mobilization models, and practical, actionable roadmaps and to navigate this transformation on their own terms.
That gap — between the pace of AI advancement and the organizational capacity to absorb it — is what TechTonic Conversations exists to close.
We are not here to hype the technology. We are not here to tell you that AI will solve everything. We are here to help you lead your organization through one of the most consequential transitions in modern business history — practically, ethically, and with both eyes open.
Introducing: The Maximally Automated Intelligent Enterprise™ (MAIE)
At the center of our work is a framework that David Shapiro and I have been developing through our consulting engagements with enterprise and government clients: The Maximally Automated Intelligent Enterprise™ — or MAIE.
The premise is straightforward: every organization — private, public, large, small — must now answer one fundamental question:
How do we rapidly and radically redesign our organizations to leverage AI and automation to their fullest potential, ethically?
MAIE is our answer to that question. It is a practical, structured framework that helps leaders:
See Further… develop personal relationships with AI and lift the vail of fear, doubt and uncertainty – become a beneficiary of Intelligence abundance and make it your personal superpower! This comes FIRST. Adopting AI is NOT a CIO/CTO Project. Adopting AI is a philosophical & psychological transformation. If the organization’s ‘owners/guardians’ don’t get their minds and hearts touched by AI deeply and personally, it will be like pushing wet noodles up the hill. In our MAIE Framework – we focus on the actual decision makers FIRST… Then:
Identify which functions, processes, and decisions are candidates for intelligent automation
Prioritize where to start, based on value, feasibility, and organizational readiness
Lead the human side of the transition — managing fear, building capability, and maintaining trust
Sustain the gains — building an organization that continuously evolves rather than stagnates after a single implementation
This is not a technology framework. It is a leadership framework — built for the people who sit on the demand side of AI, not the supply side.
We are not building AI. We are helping you decide how, when, and where to deploy it — and how to bring your people along for the journey.
The Bigger Picture: Post-Labor Economics & Sustainable Abundance for ALL
MAIE doesn’t exist in isolation. It sits within a much larger economic and societal transition that my collaborator, ally and thought-partner, David Shapiro has been researching and writing about extensively.
David’s work in Post-Labor Economics explores what happens to economies, organizations, and individuals as intelligent automation progressively reduces the demand for human labor in its traditional forms. This is not a dystopian prediction — it is an analytical framework for understanding a transition that is already underway, and for developing policies, strategies, and personal approaches that lead to Sustainable Abundance for All rather than concentrated wealth for a few.
The connection between MAIE and Post-Labor Economics is direct: organizations that successfully become Maximally Automated Intelligent Enterprises will generate significant productivity gains. The critical question — for leaders, policymakers, and individuals alike — is: where does that abundance go, and how do we ensure it is distributed in a way that strengthens rather than fractures our societies?
These are the questions we will explore together in TechTonic Conversations — at the organizational level, the policy level, and the human level.
